Ch. Malha Singh – A Great Philanthropist
Ray Bahadur Chaudhry Mallah Singh was one of those great men with a vision and farsight who realized that education is the vital instrument of progress of a society. His philanthropic deeds are innumerable, such as institutions, Sarais and hospitals. In spite of all this, the burning passion within him was to make suitable provision for the education of the youth of his community.
Such is the life of Ch. Malha Singh Ji who devoted himself for the well-being of the masses. The people of society will forever remain indebted to this great departed soul who led them from darkness to light.

About GSMSSS Indora
School Heritage
The foundation stone for the establishment of a primary school in the memory of Ch. Sunder Singh, father of Ch. Mallah Singh, was laid by Col. Buck (the Deputy Commissioner of Kangra District) in 1916.
In 1919, R.B. Mallah Singh expressed his desire to hand over the then existing primary school to the Rajput Committee. Accordingly, Ch. Kharak Singh (Honorary Magistrate), R.B. Ch. Lehna Singh, Thakur Kirpa Ram, Ch. Narain Singh, and Thakur Singh came to Indora and were prominent members of that committee. The idea to raise this school up to a high school was discussed, and a committee of 16 leading Rajputs was formed with Ch. Mallah Singh Ji as its President and Ch. Kharak Singh as its Manager.
Up to 1921 it was Rajput Middle School, and in 1923–24 it became Sunder Singh Mallah Singh (S.M.) Rajput High School. It was recognized in 1924, and the first matric batch passed out with good results — fourteen out of seventeen students succeeded with high marks.
In the sacred memory of Ch. Mallah Singh, S.M.R. High School was upgraded to Higher Secondary Level in 1962–63, but due to financial difficulties it was later downgraded. As the financial problem kept increasing, the school was handed over to the Government in April 1971. According to the wishes of the people and to preserve the memories of Ch. Sahib, the Himachal Government retained the name S.M. (as Govt. S.M. High School Indora). It was again raised to Senior Secondary level in 1986 by the Himachal Government.
This school continued under the able guidance of hardworking headmasters, dedicated teachers, principals, and staff members. It has produced hundreds of brilliant students who now serve the nation in fields such as politics, medicine, military, engineering, industry, agriculture, and many other spheres of life.
This institution stands as a living legacy of vision, dedication, and service — a symbol of knowledge that continues to illuminate generations.
